S.05/About us

Twenty-four years of going the wrong way down a hole on purpose.

TerraForge started in 2001 with two jumbos and a leased shop on Kelly Lake Road. The shop is still there. There are rather more jumbos.

01

Who we are

A specialist underground mining contractor, employee-owned since 2014, headquartered in Sudbury with active projects across Canada, the United States, Mexico and West Africa.

Engineer in an illuminated underground drift

We took our first contract because the operator could not find anyone willing to drive a decline through that particular fault zone.

That has more or less been the pattern since. We are usually brought in for the part of the mine plan that carries the most geotechnical risk, on the basis that we will say plainly whether the schedule is achievable rather than discovering it is not four months in.

Employee ownership changed how that conversation goes. When the crew driving the heading holds equity in the outcome, nobody has an incentive to quietly bank a problem for the next shift.

02

What we hold to

Four things, and we would rather lose a tender than trade any of them.

V.01Say the real number

The schedule we price is the schedule we believe. Winning work on a number we cannot hit is a way of losing a client slowly.

V.02The ground decides

Rock does not care about the Gantt chart. When conditions change, the plan changes — and we say so the same day.

V.03Train people up

Two thirds of our supervisors started underground with us as apprentices or nippers. That is deliberate.

V.04Leave it documented

As-built survey, support register, equipment condition. The next crew inherits a record, not a rumour.
